Events and Activities for the year 2014
Report on the
2014 Somerset
and Dorset Philatelic Federation Competition (Poole)
The Poole and District Philatelic and Postcard Club were delighted to have hosted this year's Competition. Particularly impressive was the efficiency of the organising and co-ordination of the event, which entailed amongst other things the delivery and erection of so many frames. Carol did an exceptional job all round. It was a pleasure to have the Competition Secretary arrive in plenty of time with all his equipment, and the entries!! so that they could be mounted and arranged, and then the many certificates and diplomas printed and distributed with the silverware.
The competence of the Judges was also most appreciated. It was noted that most of the Federation Officers and Judges had travelled from as far as Minehead, Burnham and Yeovil, great dedication, and a pleasure to see everyone having a good time. The Poole Club's Annual Fair took place in the main hall, and the Dealers appreciated the extra visitors that the Competition attracted.
It is pleasing to note that many of the Awards, and the overall Winner Trophy went to Poole Club members, who submitted seven of the fifty entries. A table of the results are beneath the pictures below.
An enormous "Thank You" and "Well Done" to all involved.

Chris Catley of the Taunton Club receiving the The Norman Tamlyn Memorial Quiz Trophy from James Hooper of the Yeovil Club |
Five Clubs took part in the 2015 Quiz, efficiently run by Elizabeth Higgins and Barbara Osmond, and hosted by the Yeovil & District Philatelic Society. Fifty wide-ranging questions of mixed complexity were given to the teams in groups of ten questions with ten minutes each for gathering the answers to each group. Following intense discussion and concentration the results were in and declared, with the winning team Taunton Stamp Club being declared the victors. James Hooper kindly presented the Trophy to Chris Catley, representing Taunton.
The 2016 Inter-Club Quiz was held in Bridgwater, hosted by the Bridgwater and District Philatelic Society,
on Tuesday 24 May at 7:30pm. Two Clubs took part, with Taunton the winners over Bridgwater by a narrow margin.
(The 2017 Quiz will be held in Taunton on Friday 19 May with details to follow in due course

Report on the
2015 Somerset
and Dorset Philatelic Federation Competition (Taunton)
(Results below)
Bridport, Poole and Yeovil took part in the competitions this year, down from the five clubs in 2014. Members from all three clubs scored winning marks and took trophies home to be enjoyed by the clubs they were from. Again Carol was masterful in the setting up of the frames for the entries, and James proved again so competent in the organisation and and success of the Competition.
The adjacent hall was packed with dealers, and many sales were effected throughout the day, ably refreshed by the kitchen crew.
The 2016 Competitions will take place on Saturday 26 November at the Church Rooms, Axminster, EX13 5AQ
